Write for the user, not the search engine

When it comes to creating content for your website, there's a golden rule to remember: Write for the user, not the search engine.

Write for the user, not the search engine

Of course, your website needs content, but just stuffing it with keywords won't cut it anymore. Google's algorithm has evolved to prioritise user experience over keyword density.

So you might get customers to your site, but those readers won’t stay long enough to spend any money if they don’t like what they’re reading. We’re not talking about the content subject but rather the way it’s written and formatted. So, what should you keep in mind while writing?

Focus

Google's goal is to provide the best possible results for its users. So, your job as a content creator is to ensure that when users land on your website, they have a positive and fulfilling experience.

Focus on creating valuable, informative, and engaging content that addresses the needs and interests of your target audience. Think about what information they're seeking and how you can best serve them.

Readability

Organise your content in a way that's easy to navigate and understand. Use clear headings, bullet points, and multimedia elements, such as images and infographics, to enhance readability and user engagement.

The goal is to make the page scannable so customers can find the information they want to know quickly and easily. However, this structure also has the added benefit of guiding your readers across the page, leading them from beginning to end to read all the information you want to give them, including those golden CTAs and internal links.

By prioritising user experience in your content strategy, you not only satisfy your audience but also improve your website's search results performance.

Quality over Quantity

Remember, while quantity is important, quality is paramount. Don't sacrifice user experience for the sake of churning out content. Focus on delivering value, and the search engine rankings will follow.

Content for the sake of boosting article numbers can actually have an adverse effect on your rankings and traffic. Google is smart and can spot spam from a mile away. Plus, your readers will be less likely to trust your authoritative content if they think you just publish articles about any old topic.

So, next time you sit down to write, keep your audience in mind. Write for them, and the search engine will take notice.
