Sometimes, you spend all this time on the sexiest content you think you’ve ever made. You’ve spent loads of time researching your topic and your brand voice. Your best content writer has produced something proper class…. but nothing.
It just goes out into the ether and ends up going where good content goes to die. Page 7 of Google.
So, wanna know a few reasons as to why your good enough content probably isn’t ranking? Here are a few things for you to start thinking about…
Why Your Website Isn’t Ranking On Google
Your Search Intent Is All Wrong
You can spend hours upon hours creating content that is just, *chefs kiss*. But if you’ve created the best landing page you’ve ever seen for a search query that is kicking up blog posts, you won’t be in with a change of a page 1 position.
Search intent should be something that you consider before you even get your creative cogs spinning. It’s so important to know the reason why people are searching for particular queries, or rather what Google thinks the why is.
Analysing the SERPs should be a crucial step ahead of writing, so it’s time to make it a priority.
Your Website’s Probably Too Slow
Google and the likes have been pushing and pushing page experience for god knows how long. Things like mobile usability and page load speed are two things that you should pay really close attention to.
Search engines like websites that load quickly and do so on mobile. I would be heading straight into my Google Search Console to see how I’m doing in the ‘Core Web Vitals’ scene. Websites with ‘Good’ page experiences tend to get more impressions.
Your Content Is Just Too Thin
Striking a balance between being a creative little sass-writer and actually providing value can be somewhat of a juggling act. You might have all the chat in the world, but if your content isn’t going into the real nitty gritty of things, Google might pass up on it.
Search engines like content that answers questions or solves problems as a whole. Not content that just touches on the topic whilst adding a load of bells and whistles too. Search engines want to provide answers, proper answers, and that’s what your content should be doing.
You’ve Built None… Or Really Bad Backlinks
You could create the most hella relevant piece of content out there. But if you’re a new website, or one that’s not been shouting about what you do, you may struggle.
Search engines like to place people with authority at the top. And how do you get authority? It’s something you build over time through people referring back to you and sharing your content, most of the time involving a backlink to your site.
If you’ve got no backlinks, or some really sh*tty ones, the search engines won’t give you a big tick when it comes to authority, and that could really harm your chances of success.
Get The SEO Results Your Content Deserves
See now how you’re content just might not be enough to rank successfully? Next time you ask yourself ‘Why is my website not ranking well?’ take yourself through these four things. Take a look at your search intent, page experience, value-adding content and backlinks. You’ll give yourself a better opportunity when it comes to getting the results you actually want.
Feels like a lot to consider, right?
