When done correctly and by someone who is in the know, you can get yourself to the top of Google overnight. Although it may not be through organic rankings (that takes time via SEO), you can somewhat achieve this through PPC. That’s pay-per-click advertising for all of you out there that are new. Via a beautiful tool known as Google Ads you could be just a few clicks away from getting all of the customers landing on your website for those search terms you know they’re typing in.
But you want to make sure they’re the right customers. Right?
It’s common for us to come across accounts that need a little (or a lot!) of TLC but time and time again we see the same mistakes being made. We decided to put together this blog post to share those common mistakes with you so that you can, well, stop making them!
Wrong Keyword Match
There are 3 keyword matches that can be used in google ads; broad, phrase and exact. It’s important that you know when to use the right one! Broad match means that your ad will show up when a user types in a keyword that you are targeting, regardless of search term structure or length. As long as the user mentions those words, you’re in! Phrase match means that your ads will only appear when someone types in the keywords you’re targeting in that exact order, no mix-ups. There can be text in front or behind, but those specific keywords have to appear in the order you specified. That leaves us with exact, which shows ads when users type in the exact search term, no more, no less.
No Negatives
Another big mistake we commonly see across Google AdWords accounts is the lack of negative keywords being used. These are one of your biggest tools to ensure you’re being seen by the right people and not the wrong people. Sometimes people can search for things and come across your website/service when really, they shouldn’t. Maybe your website isn’t the right fit for them and/or what they were searching for. This is where negative keywords come in handy. You can reduce your costs and reach a better pool of potential customers by utilising this tool – pop this at the top of your priority list!
Not Bidding on Yourself
Bidding on your own brand is always seen to be a bit of a funny one and we don’t understand why – there are so many positives that can come from this when done correctly. If you had to use every opportunity to push your brand and why you are so great, you would, wouldn’t you?! You’re aiming to put your brand in the right customer’s faces when the opportunity does arise, so make sure you grasp it. By adding bids to your own brand name, you’re also avoiding the potential situation of competitors doing so – which seems to happen more often than you think. If you’re not going to do it, you can bet that somebody else will.
Are you ready to go through your Google AdWords account and resolve these issues fast? By keeping on top of your account and optimising it using various processes means that you’ll be getting the most out of the money you’re spending.
