4 Reasons Why Your Social Media Marketing Isn't Working For You

Social media is rapidly changing. There seems to be something new every week. You believe that you have beaten the algorithm, and then bang, here comes a new update from Instagram, and your engagement has decreased. We’ve all been there.

So we have explored why you might be finding social media marketing difficult.

Audience

Let’s get back to basics. Your audience is the customer, even if they have shopped with you before. Build your own personality across your platforms when writing and producing your content.

If we stumble across a makeup website, we don’t expect to click onto their social media channels and see employees attempting to get viral with the latest TikTok dance filling our phone screens on a Wednesday evening. The algorithm's favourite accounts are the ones with a high level of audience engagement, especially in comments and conversations.

Reviewing competitors for inspiration and ideas is okay, but do your research and create your own ideas on what content to publish on platforms.

Ultimately, your audience should be niche and unique. Attract them. Understand them. That is the audience you want to regularly engage with and produce content for.

Consistency

We understand that running a business is time-consuming but for social media marketing to work effectively, remaining consistent is just as important. This can be applied to many areas of your platforms.

Visually - colours, fonts and copy should remain the same. It just looks appealing to the eyes. Keep talking about similar things related to your business and your sector. For example, if that makeup brand started talking about the latest football scores, things would begin to feel very confusing. Your audience will also lose interest.

Your audience should already know when your content is going live so they can be there to engage with it. Plan a schedule that works for you. You don’t want to bombard your audience but also fail to push content out regularly.

Performance

Many reasons why your marketing strategy might not work for you could be down to measuring the performance of your content. We bet the first thing you thought of is the follower account, but there is so much more to it these days.

Real customers don’t care about the followers and are more interested in the positive engagement you are receiving from your audience. How have they responded to your stories? Are they liking, reading and watching what content you are sharing across your platforms? Are the click-through links following through with a conversion? It is essential to review the content you are regularly sharing to see if you can develop it further or need to change your strategy.

Performance doesn’t just come down to reviewing the analytics of your content but also analysing whether the social media platform is working effectively for your business. TikTok and Instagram might be an excellent way for that makeup brand to promote and advertise themselves visually, but the audience on LinkedIn will probably not work well for them.

The Possibilities Are Endless

Social media shouldn’t be the one and only. It goes hand in hand with other marketing strategies and should only be seen as an addition to your current marketing plan.

Organic growth can be done, but it takes time and effort. SEO, PPC, Video Marketing and Email Marketing are other ways to engage with your audience that aid the overall marketing strategy and can lead to results that you are happy with as a business owner.

Social media can be a tricky place to navigate these days.
