3 Basic SEO Tactics That You Can Do Today!

May 23, 2019

We’re not going to sit here and pretend to you that SEO is some kind of black magic that only a few know how to crack. Yes, there are lots of in-depth tactics that can take years and years to master but there are also some basics that you can implement onto your website today.

Yes. Today.

SEO is the art (or maybe the science?) of getting your website found on google and everyone’s aim is to be the cream of the crop and get that 1st place ranking. There are plenty of ways that you can get there but one thing it will take is time. But saying that, the time it’ll take can be shortened ever so slightly by acting today and beginning to make small but important changes

Today we’re sharing 3 simple SEO tactics that you can easily implement, all you need to know is how to change them in the backend, or know somebody who does.

Meta Titles

A meta title or ‘title tag’ as it’s also known, is a HTML element of a page which lets Google know the title of that page. They are the clickable, big text that you see on search results when you put a query into Google. They are the first thing a user will see on Google and we all know that first impressions count! But what’s the best way to write one?

Optimal Length: 50 – 60 characters to save Google cutting off using an ellipsis.

Optimal Layout: Primary Keyword | Secondary Keyword – Brand Name

I.e. Dog Walkers | Dog Groomers – Dogs R Us

Title tags allow you to tell the user exactly what they’re going to find when they look onto that page along with associating it with your brand.

Meta Descriptions

A meta description tells the Googler’s a little bit more about what to expect when they click on that page. It doesn’t affect where you rank in Google but it’s super important for getting users to click through. They are essentially your opportunity to advertise what’s on that specific page through a short paragraph.

It’s important to write for your user so don’t be too keyword spammy but make sure to include some benefits of the business which might make someone choose yourself over someone else. For example, do you offer free national shipping? Do you have an offer on first-time orders? Let the audience know!

Optimal Length: 50 – 160 characters – use them wisely!

H1 Tags

A H1 is a title tag that symbolises a heading on a webpage, and it basically tells Google again, exactly what that page is going to be about. You see a pattern here? There are multiple headings that can be used on a website, from Heading 1 to Heading 6, but H1’s are the Kings & Queens that you need to use.

Use only one H1 tag per page and where possible and if it makes sense to yourself and the reader, use your primary keyword. This again, is telling Google, ‘Hey, you know that thing I talked about in my meta titles & descriptions? Yup, this page is definitely about that!’. All it needs to be is a strong, bold piece of text telling your user that they’re in the right place.

Optimal Length: None, just keep it pretty short and snappy!

There you have it, 3 small SEO tactics that you can implement on your website today to get ranking a little better. But please remember! This is just a small fish in a big SEO pond and is the foundation of a good SEO strategy.
